Robert Hochstöger is a painter whose work is characterized by an explicitly male gaze on the male body – direct, critical, heroic, dreamy, and often infused with an unapologetic sexual interest.
He finds most of the models for his predominantly realistic oil paintings on Instagram – a platform where self-staging and the desire to be seen, self-presentation and voyeurism come together.

Born in the secluded region of the Austrian Waldviertel, Robert Hochstöger first worked for a master-builder before starting a career in the London film industry. In 2019, he began dedicating himself to painting. He currently lives and works in Vienna.
